James W. Cole
Jim has over 25 years of public and private financial, tax and accounting experience. Over the course of his career he has built a strong reputation for expert, current technical knowledge in the constantly changing areas of corporate, partnership and individual taxation.
Born in Horseheads, New York, Jim graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology. Following graduation, he headed west. While living in Colorado, he was Tax Manager with a national CPA firm and later was Chief Financial Officer of a real estate development and manufacturing group in Colorado Springs.
Jim returned east and joined BST in 1994 and made partner in 1998. While Jim’s tax background is extensive and broad, he has particular expertise in the real estate and medical practice areas, as well as working with closely-held businesses and their owners, providing services ranging from income tax planning strategies to merger and acquisition consulting, ownership transition, and estate planning.
Active in the community, Jim previously served on various Boards including; Capital Repertory Theatre, New York State Special Olympics and the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is a former adjunct faculty member at Siena College and he frequently lectures and writes articles for various business and civic organizations. In addition, Jim has been consulted and interviewed by local and national media, including NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight. Jim lives in Albany with his wife Emmy.
